I was thinking that too.

How are we supposed to know if we have sediment layers?

It shows up on embark. Sediment is all the stuff like sand, clay, silt and stuff like that.

Don't think we can in the embark finder, best thing to do is search for flux and hope it's not marble.

"Sediment" when asked by a DF player usually refers to "sedimentary rock."

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Deep Metal is as opposed to Shallow Metal, veins of metal found deep underground.
Noted that there's not many veins of metal as in previous versions, I think exploratory mining is going to have a purpose again.

Well "deep metal" had spoiler metal, may just be luck.

Also, it was marble :(

When one sees they layers screen, muddy, clay and soil layers appear in brown.  Sedimentary rock almost always takes up a single layer between the metamorphic and soil layers if it is present and is shown in bright white text (claystone, mudstone, chalk, dolomite... etc).  Igneous rocks are dark and darker grey whilst metamorphic (the most common ones) are light grey.

Not in 19 it doesn't, BuGGaTon. There's only "flux" or "metal" shown on embark. And of course the "flux" I have is marble and the "metal" I have is tetrahedrite. I'm really hoping Toady changes this or makes it an init option.

Shallow metal showed up as large veins of gold.  I haven't found anything else in my current site, but I haven't looked that much.  Anyone actually have multiple types of metal in a map, aside from blue stuff?

Yes, but make sure you look for a site that says shallow metalS or deep metalS. When it says shallow metal, it means the singular.

I embarked on a site with shallow metal, which pretty much meant that the three layers beneath soil were magnetite layers :)
