leather artifact problem

I have a dwarf squatting on my leatherworks saying that he needs "skins....leather" when i have plenty of it in my stockpiles, no specific leather needs in his profile, and even leather of the mules that he likes, but he refuses to budge.

Oh, ouch...  he wants one that isn't tanned!  That'll be hard to arrange if the tanner's shop is auto-processing them.  In any of the recent versions, at least he won't want any particular animal.  Still...  harsh.

he is so not going for either the cow or the mule skin in the stockpile, and the tanner is currently suspended.

I had a carpenter who wanted the following:

Tree...Life
Stone...Brick
....Shell
Silk/cloth...thread (I forget)

All she took was a Willow Log.
Shortly after I had a couple stone blocks made for various reasons & I kept hoping my dwarves would eat one of the two turtles I had from the 200 edible delights. Someone did. I only had spider silk thread though.

Now the shell was at the refuse pile outside. She ignored it. So I made the other dwarves bring that one piece of shell TWO spaces from the workshop she took over. All she still had was that willow log.

She lost all sanity. While there were at least 20 dwarves idle at odd times during her lazy hour.

She ran back to her room at some point & I'm keeping her locked in there, I don't care how thirsty she is.. my other dwarves are just gonna have to be TOO lazy to help her.

My question(s) is.. did I do something wrong? Is there more then one type of shell? or was this dwarf just so friggin lazy she didn't wanna move two spaces?

Well, they seem to have this problem sometimes, but it should be like any other job (including all the issues other jobs have).  They do have to grab the things they need in order, and the order isn't always clear, so it might be another item entirely (occasionally things like "particular ore" come up twice or are there longer, meaning two kinds are needed.  In any case, if you've narrowed it all down and have a save, I can take a look at it.

The only save I have backed up now is after the incident... she's still locked in the room.

Does this matter, or no?
