no honey bees
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:32:05 am »

Hi mateys,

after downloading the newest version and doing the "do it yourself lazy newb-pack" I have created 5 world.

In every one i found a nice place to embark (little or some soil, clay, sand, metal, brook, trees, other vegetation, etc.)
in some of these I found bumblebees, but I didn't find any honey bees....

is it possible, they don't occur in some conditions?
can I buy them later?

or can I even use bumblebees?

Greetings and Thanks!

I looked a bit at the raws earlier and they seemed to be kinda the same. So I think you can use them.

I have made and used a nest of Bumblebees. They seem to be functionally identical to honey bees.

Really cause I had two nest of them on my map, and the dwarves didnt even look at them. I'm probably doing something wrong though.

Bumblebees are better, anyway. Seriously, they're like tiny fuzzy flying bundles of joy. Did you know you can pet bumblebees? They won't even care, as long as you don't squish them, which is when they sting.

Bumblebees...the fluffy wamblers of the insect kingdom.

However IRL they only store a few days of honey, as opposed to honeybees' multi-month supply.  Thus IRL, bumblebees are unsuitable for honey farming.

In DF, however, they behave identically.  (Stinging wise too).

I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to get hives of both.
