Nuke Tool to Clean Map?
« on: February 16, 2011, 12:09:26 pm »

I have several well defended fortresses but I am running into a problem, too much crap. So much crap in fact from the endless chain of ambushes I am literally waiting 3-5 minutes for a single cycle. Has anyone thought of a tool that can go into a region save and delete any unclaimed or forbidden objects?

In short: If it isn't owned by a dorf, and is not stone or wood, delete it. I am up to my eye ballz in Cave Spider socks... so many that I had to write a winbatch tool to mark them for hauling to the depot.

Much like the DFHack tool for cleaning blood, is there a tool to nuke across a save file any unclaimed or forbidden crap? Perhaps a simple tool that has the following:

Check boxs: Unclaimed, Forbidden, Exclude Stone from ALL, Exclude Wood from ALL

Text Field: ALL (default) OR let user key in some regexp of the items to purge.

Seriously the winbatch script (all it does is KEY_DOWN, T, repeat) takes 8-10 minutes to complete at this point. There are sooo many bodies and crap the number of objects must be through the roof and it would take weeks of real time just to DAS them into oblivion.

Just do what I do, make a stockpile for items of specific type, under a raised (not retracted) drawbridge, dump the items you want to keep into a place where they wont get smashed, and hit tha lever.

Alternately you can build a raising bridge and dump everything (yes everything) change the dump, claim and redump the items you want to keep and wait till all the jobs for hauling refuse are gone and smash away, be sure to recheck that all the items you want have been moved, quantom stockpiles FTW, and it will take a while if you dont start doing it from embark.

That's what I do now, the problem is even with 80 dwarves set to pick up the crap it will be clear some time, based on estimates in the year 2019. I have that much shit on the map. I had 12 back to back to back ambushes, 3 sieges, a titan and over 60 dead dwarves. DAS is too slow as I have to get the crap to the stockpiles, garbage dumps, etc.

Again I have to wait several minutes PER tick so moving an object, say 10 spaces away from the dump would take 10 to 20 MINUTES to cover that distance. Too much crap on the map for DAS to handle.

How about you send me a copy of your save, and I'll clean it for you...and give it back.

Well if you've got DFHack just open the liquids thing and toss around some lava  a layer above that stuff. Maybe make some arrangements so you won't set the landscape on fire but in general you should be able to burn up a boatload right away and then not mind hauling just the iron around after the red 1s evaporate.

Pick a few materials that make up the most of the garbage, make sure you dont have anything you like to keep made of it, and set them to evaporate. I usualy do microcline, other rocks I dont use and plant fibers (cost me a few pig tail artifacts I will admit).

Othet than that, [SPEED:0] is the only way to make this go quicker. Turning off invasions should at least keep the pile from increasing.

I make Grimlocke's History & Realism Mods. Its got poleaxes, sturdy joints and bloomeries. Now compatible with DF Revised!
