Where did that FB go?
« on: February 10, 2011, 01:15:03 pm »

I got a warning and it showed me where it was in the caverns but now it's vanished. It's not in the unit list and I don't particularly want to search through all the z-levels to see if I can spot it.

I'd assume it's gone to a section I haven't uncovered. Problem is now I have no idea if it has access to my base or not! Does it automatically path find to my base? Can I just put man-made floors over stairs to block them out? Or will they destroy floors...

Forgotten beasts never actually leave the map, but if it wanders into a part of the caverns you haven't explored yet, it will disappear from the unit list, and you won't be able to find it.  I recommend dropping a kitten or puppy into the caverns to lure it out and/or explore the unexplored areas.

FBs should not be able to destroy floors. Hatch covers and doors become rubble. The FB may also be going after tribes of animal-men that live underground, luring it into those unexplored areas. Usually if there is a path into your fortress, the nearest areas of the cavern to that hole will be revealed anyway.

Currently, your FB is hunkering down with some of his buddies, amusing them with his best Elmuh Fudd impersonation.

Well I got around to gaining access back to the caverns. A giant rat ran out and got captured, shortly followed by the FB.

The FB ran straight over my traps and in to the front gate, I knew it would do that so I already dispatched my men (2 Mace, 1 axe, 1 sword, 2 marksman) to intercept him. The FB swiped at a butchers which caused skulls/bones to explode everywhere. Then the FB shot a massive fireball down the hallway (never seen that before, looked cool) but that didn't do much. One marksdorf shot a bolt and chipped the FB's arm, the other forgot to grab bolts and ran in to melee range and punched its leg off. The FB fell down and was killed by another 2 or 3 bolts from the marksdorf.

It seems an FB made of 'fire' doesn't have very stable joints, I was worried for nothing!

"punched it's leg off" has to be the best things ever said.

Yeah, FBs made out of fire, gas, or similar will get torn right apart.

When an FB made out of, say, gabbro comes...then it's okay to cry.

What about a forgotten beast made out of Crystal Glass, will I be able to "punch it's leg off"?

Which is not as silly as it sounds. Considering the size of forgotten beasts, their legs (if any) must be very thick. Glass is considered "fragile" because usually it's just a thin pane. Like a window. Take a pillar of glass about as wide aroung as your leg, though. Now, try to punch through THAT.

Actually, don't. You'll probably injure your fist, and then you'll die of infection/starvation in the hospital.

I was taking your post so seriously and you helped me understand why glass monsters are so powerful. Then got caught off guard by the dying on infection in a hospital, I lol'd a bit too loud.

Okay, okay, could I remove it's leg with a steel warhammer?
