For me, DF nurses my inner sadist, so now I'm a sane person with no qualms about the discussion of torture, genocide, and body harvesting.
Of course, that's one of the many things I admire about this game.

DF has kept me from wasting money on new game titles that wouldn't be worth anything like their initial price to me.  Every so often I go buy some at a greatly reduced price, after most of their bugs have been patched out and the general public has become bored with them.  I play those until I am sated with graphical newness combined with whatever irremediable bugs remain, then pay my annual ante to Tarn Adams and return to playing DF.
