Pitting dangerous critters (and what to do with them?)
« on: January 31, 2011, 05:54:39 pm »

So, I decided to put five cage traps on my map in place where animals path through. Those five random traps have managed to catch a giant eagle (did it just randomly land into one, or something?), a giant jaguar, two tigermen and two gorillas. The tigermen have been tamed and are now chilling in my dining room, but the others are a problem. I've heard that the Dungeon Master is broken, so it is unlikely I would be able to train them. I though about dropping them into an arena for soldier training, but will the dwarfs be able to drag them there without letting them loose and getting mauled?

You can {b}uild the {j}cages ({v}iew the cages when building them to make sure they contain critters) in the arena; then {b}uild a {T}{l}ever and link that{q}{a}{j}to the cages. Station your military near the cages, lock the doors leading out (oh ya, build doors) and then pull the lever.

If you get any goblins, you can build goblin cages with them and watch the goblins duke it out with the animals.

On that note, how broken is the Dungeon Master? I've heard that people still get him sometimes. I wouldn't want to waste potential battle-animals, so when can I be absolutely sure that he won't be coming?

i made a thread about the dungeon master just earlier, let's not make another one

here's a way to kill your unwanted critters, requires magma and a retracting bridge, make a garbage dump zone on the bridge, designate the cages that are in your stockpile to be dumped and then retract the bridge and look at them fall trough the magma and melt

I'm pretty sure that Dungeon Masters do not come naturally, but you can mod them to be appointable (check modding section).
