An epidemic of crazy
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:56:21 pm »

Just had my fourth dwarf in this fortress develop the crazies for no apparent reason. They get a strange mood, but don't try to claim a workshop, they just hang out in the meeting hall or the food storage room. Then after a while, Urist McSensitive cancels Strange Mood: Went Insane. Urist McSensitive is stricken by melancholy! Any theories I could test out?

If you have magma buildings, build regular ones instead.
If you have no craft workshops, build one

The first one is common, since dwarves are finicky when moody. What skills did the dead dwarves have, anyway?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

The craft workshop is usually the first choice. Look at their skills, when they go into a mood. Clothier, leatherworker, forge, bowyer, mason, glassmaker, carpenter, jeweller shops should cover any mood. If you do not have the raw materials they need, that is another problem. Remember, if you do not have anyone with those skills to build a certain type of shop, just assign a dwarf that labor. If he/she is not assigned other duties, will go and build the shop needed by Bomreck the nutsy

Should you fail to comply, strict !!disciplinary actions!! will be taken. Also, we feel we should remind you that one of the "criminals" on your list is the chief medical dwarf. If he ends up too badly injured to do his job, you will be fired. Out of a magma cannon.
Sincerely,
The Administration
