out of curiousity, why armor over weapons?  i've just gotten to the good stuff as well, but i've started off making axes and spears.  what's the reason to prioritize armor?

The theory is that if I can stay alive, I'll be able to kill whatever I'm facing even with Steel weapons... while if I'm killed, even Adamantine weapons won't help me much.

Naturally, this is a judgement call.

That cuts both ways... don't steel weapons also outclass every other civ?

On top of making the most use out of a material of limited supplies and killing things faster, adamantite armor's light weight doesn't factor in as much when you have high level armor users (which should be the only ones receiving this kind of equipment in the first place), who move quickly regardless.  Thus we get to the outclassing:  Where iron/bronze weaponry will rarely if ever penetrate or even damage dwarves through steel armor, dwarves with adamantite edge weapons will kill enemies much more quickly in comparison to steel.

So pretty much if I have tons of every type of ore I would fit my army with....

Silver Blunt Weapons?
Blue Everything else armor and weapons?

Then next would be

Steel everything armor and weapons?
