Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here.  Ever since I started playing I havn't been able to dump items where two or more occupy the same square.  A good example is when you channel a few z=levels down and the stone accumulates on each square.  Whenever I assign those squares to be dumped nothing happens.

do you have a garbage dump assigned?  You must define a dump zone in the activity box thing using "i" first.

I experienced this same thing back in 40d...my solution was to build a mason's workshop nearby and turn all the stone into crafts and blocks. Not the greatest solution, I know, but I've experienced this same problem, for the record.

Perhaps designating all of the stone to be used for something (like building a floor) and then un-building and dumping the stone that was used will "re-claim" it for dumpability?

Yeah definately have a dump available, the buggers just dont want to take anything from those squares.

I also try using mason WS's to get rid of it but I was hoping for a fast solution

I'm not trying to be demeaning with this checklist, I'm just providing it for you.  Sort of like asking if something is plugged in when someone says it isn't working.

1.  Create dump zone with i-g, size irrelevant.  Placing a dump site over a pit should be fine, but it may be a good idea to put it on solid ground for now to make sure that isn't the bug.
2.  Designate stone for dumping (either k-d on each stone or d-b-d and drag over every stone).
3.  Make sure there is a path from the stone to the dump site
4.  Make sure dwarves have garbage hauling on.
5.  Make sure dwarves collect refuse from inside (or outside, if you are digging from the surface)
6.  Anything I forgot, df community?

Are the stones forbidden? If yes, then you can't dump them. You have to reclaim them first under d -> b -> c.

It's just probable that you've overlooked something rather than a spontaneous new bug has appeared which affects only you.

There's a bug I've experienced which can look like this at times. I think the cause of it is dump jobs being queued which are inaccessible, which causes later dump jobs to get hung up; whether or not that is true, I did manage to find a solution for it, and I'd suggest you give the following a shot in case this is your problem:

• Disable Burrows.
• Mass-undump everything (d -> b -> D).
• Unpause the game for a moment to allow your dwarves to pick up new tasks.
• Flag the items that need to be dumped again (and, while doing this, verify that all marked items are actually accessible).

Also, does someone OWN the item?

If they don't have a room with a cabinet/chest they won't store it and will leave it lying around.

There do seem to be some bugs besides that where they seem to get locked.

Also also, do you have idle dwarfs?  Dump stone is pretty low on the priority list.

"Gather refuse from outside" is the biggest issue I have, since anything labeled for Dump which is outside, is ignored until you build a roof over it.  Double-check your (o)rders list.
