No goblin neighbours?

So I was playing with invaders turned off for a while, but recently switched it back on. In my civ list there are no goblin civs and so far I've only had a few kobold ambushes. Will the goblins ever besiege me or should I just start making enemies with the elves?

Edit: I'm not on an island or anything, and somewhere on the continent there are goblins.

I had a fortress with no goblin neighbours (not on an island either) You don't get goblin attacked ever as far as I know, and it makes things a lot easier to learn how stuff works, or build a mega-project, or what-have-you.

Then again, it also makes things a lot more boring if you like the whole Dwarfs-vs-Goblins war thing, which I do.
