'stuck open' Floodgates
« on: August 22, 2006, 07:14:00 am »

I used to be able to use floodgates fine, but I notice that every time I deploy them now I'm unable to shut off the water. I can flip both switches back over until everybody starves but the water never recedes, and it's an infinite supply so it'll flood the whole map if I give it half a chance. Is this a known issue?

I don't presently have a save onhand where I used  floodgates, but it happens in every game I run so I could generate a save with said bug and see if I can try and host it somewhere if that helps.

Does the water curl back and hit the main river(s) at any other point?

It doesn't, the infinitely-flowing water is blocked by rivers in fact. But when it gets to the main door and spreads over the outside land it becomes shallow and non-deadly, but if I recall it still freezse in place anyone who was present before the flood. After the flood, if new migrants come in they're able to move in it and get to the main door where a few of them will drown and the others will just refuse to continue into the fort.

Oh, the room that the floodgates was in had many many squares adjacent to the river, so if you mean does the water from the floodgate touch the river at any other points than at th floodgate.. yes, the room it floods is open to the underground river.

Well, that's the problem. Unfortunately the flooding water currently cannot touch another water source or it'll never end. :\

In case you accidentally make an opening to a water source block it off with flood gates or else it'll be messed up.
