I actually go with 1 spear/trap. why? kids waltz in and out of the room.
well if I have time I set up veteran barracks and have them train with 5 spears.

The first time I ever used a danger room, I skewered two babies.  I didn't know at the time that dwarf mommies carry their babies around everywhere.  Moments after that, I skewered a bunch of dogs too.

Traumatized me, haha.

Ever since then, I'm pretty careful about setting things up so I can avoid any deaths, if possible.  Some pets are really suicidal, though, and do everything they can to kill themselves.
