Solution to the "Severed Motor Nerve" problem
« on: January 17, 2011, 11:30:17 am »

One of my biggest annoyances with DF has always been having my best military dwarves permanently crippled when they take a light stabbing to the left big toe.  After reading through the forums and trying a few different things (like adding a healing rate to nerve tissue) without much success, I think I finally found the answer.

If you just remove the [HAS_NERVES] tag from the dwarf entry in creature_standard.txt, it seems to prevent the dreaded "Severed Motor Nerve" condition from ever occurring.  After running a new fort for a few years, all of my injured dwarves (of which there have been many) have managed to recover and return to their normal jobs, even after enduring some pretty nasty wounds - cave ins, multiple broken bones, muscles cut apart, fractured skulls, etc.  As far as I can tell, they also seem to still feel pain, so there doesn't seem to be any other gameplay consequences outside of preventing permanent crippling.

Anyway, I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find anything with search.  This little tweak has made my DF experience much more enjoyable and I thought I'd share.
