Check the 'lecky values on the batteries and the laptop. They should be different. Possibly all three will be different, but mainly, check the differences on the batteries.
...If you could, it'd help to see what all three are.

So yeah, I was wondering if anyone with more experience than me could tell me if I could open up the laptop and remove this nub thing, or if I shouldn't do that because the new battery will explode.

In my experience, this is a bad idea... laptops are generally hard to get into (aside from HDD and RAM access panels)... and putting things back together is always harder than taking them apart...

I'm not saying "don't do it", just "be very, very careful".

As for the battery itself: what Fayrik said. Or, if you're not sure what to look for, post pics of the labels on each battery.
