Weird. Sounds like a science project for someone.  :).

It might be that the ghost has to appear before magmadumping works, too. I'm reasonably sure (though not positive) that I've magmadumped dead caravan guards and then had them arise as ghosts. But I'm very sure I haven't had caravan guard ghosts and then magmadumped their corpse.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if saving all caravan guard remains until their ghost arises is the best solution for making sure you can deal with their ghosts. I'm pretty sure a lot of caravan guards don't get named until they arise, which (I think) might be one reason they're so problematic.

Another weird quirk of DF, I guess: I'm going to have to start a "burial chamber" room somewhere.
