Pressure Plates: How in the heck do I make em' work?

As you might've guessed, I can't get pressure plates to work.  it's not the linking or anything; I just cannot seem to get the weight settings.  Mentally or physically, I don't understand them.
Can someone help me?  I wish to have a pressureplate that will trigger whenever a hostile enemy (The ones you regularly see in seiges) steps on it.
Btw, if it matters, I'm using DF Genesis mod.

build it and hit c. then adjust the weight setting to the weight of goblins (which i dont know). it will be triggered on contact with anything the the size of a goblin or bigger. you also have to link it to stuff

This is how pressure plates work.

The weight of adult goblins 60,000, same as elves and dwarves, but this doesn't matter.
Set your weight to include the widest range of weights possible, and set it to ignore citizens, which the wiki tells is included in the menu for the device's creature selection screen.

It defaults to "ignore citizens," so no problems there.

i disagree, the phrasing is fairly different in the subject line, I would say its unintentional.

Also "don't tell me to talk to a dwarf therapist, the job listings are lying and gettin' me pissed."

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Dwarf companion was never updated to 31.xx. If you're still using 31.16, you could use Runesmith, but I'm not sure if that can do it.
