Font Corruption?
« on: March 27, 2008, 06:29:00 pm »

Reinstalled earlier today, and most text has just been '., and the like. The picture up top is my title screen. Other DOS programs work fine with text. Any ideas before I pull up a chkdisk?

DF isn't a DOS game.  :)

Someone recently posted that DF can have problems when you're using certain graphics card drivers; you may need to tweak your card's settings to get it to work properly.

I'll give my control panel a shot.
It's weird because I was only playing it a few weeks ago and it was just fine.

No good. Any idea what the font might be, anyway? I remember having to delete some earlier for a different problem.

I've had that happen. Double check that your window settings are correct. Try a fresh (and untweaked) install.

Was it something about texture compression in the performance options?  This has happened a number of times, but I don't know how to fix it from my end in the code.

Wow, this problem comes up so often I'm surprised the solution hasn't been offered yet.

It's your graphics drivers.

I think the solution--as I haven't really paid attention--is to open up the graphics control pannel and turn the quality setting to "higher."  Alternatively, update your drivers.

Everyone always just posts a pic of the title screen when this bug comes up.  What does it actually look like in game?  I'm curious.

Hell if I could even start it. Everything that was once words becomes those characters, or gone. Anything else like ░ stays the same.

I'll try the drivers.

Oh god damn it. Who left it on High Preformance? Thanks for the patience.

Ta da.  This issue crops up about once a week.  I wish people would search the bug forum first.  And then read the thread.  Only thing I'd hate more than a dup bug like this would be someone necroposting to say "I have the same problem" without realizing that the problem was fixed two posts up.

So does high performance mean it's reducing the quality of the textures for speed reasons?  Any OpenGL people know if there's a way I can tell it that my textures aren't to be abused in the same way, since they aren't being used to color a million triangles, but rather to display information?
