Add USE_ANY_PET_RACE to dwarves and you can embark with Giant Cave Spiders. They're 1251 apiece though so it's a better idea to buy them from the caravan. They pay for themselves the first time they discover a cloaked enemy and fire off a spray of webs. Chain them in front of a trap array and you'll soon have a collection of caged kobolds your dwarves can laugh at.

Giant Desert Scorpions are also pretty awesome especially with [TRAINABLE] added to them and given the ability to reproduce.

Sounds cool, would I just put [USE_ANY_PET_RACE] in creature_standard.txt ?

Entity_Default actually. As a side note, Helmet Snakes won't necessarily appear in the embark list if the home civ doesn't have access to them. Same for Giant Desert Scorpions. I've yet to see a dwarven civilization without access to Giant Cave Spiders though.

Since you're going to be modding it anyway, I recommend going ahead and adding [TRAINABLE] to Giant Cave Spiders as tacking another zero on at the end of their maximum lifespan. It's fairly annoying to spend a thousand or two thousand dwarfbucks on a creature that might drop dead in a couple of years.

You can also add [USE_ANY_PET_RACE] to humans as well if you want to expand the number of animals you can import. Their selection is usually a lot less interesting though.
