Hey I got an Interesting question!
« on: January 14, 2011, 12:27:18 am »

Hey I Was wondering what would happen what would happen if in dwarf fortress mode you made a pump system powered by wind that pumped water up onto the land and it was based on a mountain or another high point and then after starting the pump you abandoned the fortress and then visited the area it was in in adventure mode,

What in the world would happen would the game stop the machine when you abandon and thuse stop any thing from happening or would it keep running and in adventure mode there would be large flooded sections or a new lake in a spot or somthing?

hmmmmm *scratches chin* im pretty sure the pump would turn off but it would be awesome if it kept going. even with the possibility of causing wide spread flooding and world map damage...

The computer wouldn't bother with fluid flows while you were gone. So the water would stay where you left it.

what if you visited that area? would it still be running? could you turn the pumps on again if they were off?

Most likely you would find it either A. running and filling the world as long as your there or B. off.

Going to abandoned flooded maps causes the game to engage the flow for the site, and wash adventurers away...

As well as holes in the bottoms of oceans flooding up caverns and such eating all of your fps. which is why traveling across deep oceans can ocasionally get fps heavy, water flowing down.

I found one near my fortress and it turned what would be a 60-70 fps fort into a 1 fps hell.

anyways try it and see, its not like it's had to do, nor does it require pumps, just find a mountain with a high aquifer, poke it and abandon, aquifer=free water.
