It's actually the hands and feet that are needed to grasp and stance, the fingers and toes are purely aesthetic.  I have a few modded creatures that get by fine without.

I believe that the temperature is still there on the tile with magma, so while such suit could protect from a magma covering, it would be helpless against your dwarves' fat burning and making them bleed to death.

Nothing weird here. They hold items with their hands, not fingers; otherwise you would have dwarves with an axe in each finger.

Actually, you don't get any magma coverings, which needs to be changed. Try taking a dip in magma for 1 turn without burnable clothing. You'll live getting right back out because a lack of said covering, hence how the fat removal dip in magma trick only goes sufficiently fast if you spend 2-3 turns in the molten rock.

Thanks.
Used that, reproduce exactly what you report.
Interestingly, I didn't need the boots at all.  Feet were fine, toes burned off no matter what.

I tried to remove toes and fingers from dwarves.  Strangely, the result was that the head became exposed to the magma.
After removing all facial features, the whole body became exposed.

Maybe later I'll try turning lips, fingers, and toes into a hair tissue type, so they get burned off but don't bleed.

Maybe the beard was preventing leaks in the suit?  :P

Never mind, not working.
It took so long for the fingers/toes/lips to take damage, and they were always the first, so I thought it was working.

But I caught a dwarf right before he died, and his whole body was melting.
Doing side-by-side tests with naked and fully armored dwarves, they die at just about the same time.
Looks like the fixed temperature is being ignored for its occupant.

After modding lips/finger/toes to be cartilage, they don't bleed, but the dwarf ends up melting everywhere else in the same time lips used to.

And [NOBREATHE] of course. Drowning would be an embarrassing way to go, for a magma-immune superdwarf

Is this a bad thing? :/
