Gem Tower Defense

Can be found here.

Stupid? Yes. Awesome? Also yes.

Try and get some silver as quickly as you can: it requires one chipped diamond, one chipped sapphire, and one chipped topaz, and it'll knock off lots of enemies while you upgrade. Malachite's weaker, but also useful, since it deals damage to multiple targets.

Also remember that you can use rocks to build walls.

Careful with flying invaders, though- make sure you have defenses away from the path of death you create for the ground invaders so they don't get through.

Isn't that description... like... every tower defense ever?  But, with different names of course...

Yes, but this deals solely with rocks and gems, and is therefore dwarfy.

And here I was thinking it was just a Tower Defense game discussion, not advertising GTD.

I like TDs as long as they're not generic and boring, Revenge of the Titans, Iron Grip: Warlord, Hell, as long as it's more than laying down your towers, wait for the enemies to come and die to them, repeat.

EDIT: its still fun to play anyways though.

Unless I'm missing something big, this game is terrible. You can barely control what things you build, and the only way to get the advanced combinations is dumb luck. You can't even downgrade gems to get different combos! The only time you can downgrade is when it's too late to matter. You can't remove obsolete gems, you can't use existing gems as part of combinations... It's as if the designer (you?) took the tower defense formula, and went out of your way to make it as non-interactive as possible.

It's a pretty old TD game at this point.

Still one of my favorites. Doesn't get as boring as a lot of others, for some reason. Probably because of the random nature of what you build. There is no "I found the ultimate solution, I'm done".

I wonder if they're ever going to make the sequel that they talked about making.

I had a hand in beta-testing Desktop Tower Defense, a rather addictive and simplistic TD. However, at the Casual Collective, he developed a Multiplayer version dubbed "MPDTD". It is neat, along with the plethora of other games on that site.
