Not burninating the countryside? [38b]
« on: March 26, 2008, 01:32:00 pm »

So I'm playing my fortress, and while I get increasing-in-size yearly sieges, I have yet to see a megabeast of any kind. My fortress value is over 1 mil at this point; so what's going on?

I think mega beasts are completely random, so it is probably just bad luck.

Or good, if you look at it in a different light.

Just be glad that you aren't getting one, and then having another come while you're recovering from the first attack. Never fun.

Bridges don't squish them.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you might need the baron (or perhaps some other noble) to get megabeasts. I don't get them either but I almost always cap my pop at or under 50.

Or, worse, while the first is still there (especially when you're completely unprepared for anything to attack).

I haven't had a megabeast in the 26 years of this fortress. Plenty of sieges and ambushes though. Oddly I haven't gotten a count/duke either... over 5 mil worth and considered a " city " of 125 with the dungeon master and philosopher ( who came alone, oddly ). Maybe I need to discover the chasm on my map first.

I had one pop up in the second year once.  After that pretty much every engraving was "The Hydra is striking down the dwarf."  Geeze, guys, get over it already.

I got my first one last night after about...7 or 8 years.  Titan.  He walked into one of my cage traps.

I had my first in the winter of my second year, and my second in the summer of my third - a hydra and a titan, respectively. I dunno; something about this site seems to attract a lot of dwarves, which in turn has allowed me to grow it really very quickly.
