AVP2010 wasn't all too bad. The only complaint I had was with the Marines and the common One Man Army scenario where one person who is an average soldier can take on whole armies of baddies. In Aliens, that person would have died a horrible death at the hands claws of the Aliens.

The only AVP game I've ever played was the one for the Atrai Jaguar. I really enjoyed it at the time. The aliens had an interesting mechanic where you could cocoon marines. When you died the cocooned marines would turn into new aliens and work like checkpoints.

I think virtually all of the Alien, and Predator movies, disagree with you. :|

That said, a AvP FPS game that focused on squad play instead of rambo-ing would be a nice change of pace. To me the best part about Aliens anyways is not necessarily the killing of them....it's watching them slowly whittle away at the weakest members of the group. An AvP FPS game not unlike L4D is where the series should have been going, IMO.
