Male/female symbols not appearing

Almost embarked on a new fortress until I checked the animals and realized all the male/female symbols are rectangles.  I recently put the MayDay pack in right after downloading DF, so maybe that has something to do with it?  How do I fix this?

sounds like you're using the ttf font.

i did a quick hack to put some poorly drawn male and female symbols in.

Cool that worked like a charm.  Those symbols don't look half bad actually :)
