My dwarves are UTTER WUSSES.

I started on a map with large rivers and several lakes full of fish. The problem is...my dwarves are afraid of fish. Anything in the river, or lake, even if it can't get to them, scares them away from it. My fisherdwarf won't fish because of carp, salmon, trout and other seemingly harmless fish. Same with digging channels, my miners won't get near a pond with such deadly and terrifying fish in it, let alone take a drink, and my dwarves are beginning to die of thirst...

I regularly get: "Miner cancels channel: interrupted by trout." Messages, and other such things.

Are dwarves supposed to be afraid of fish? I thought dwarves were brave..

Man, did you net see what Carps can do to dwarves - they are worse than elephants.

the fish that scare your dwarves are creatures, not "fish"

the fish your fisherdwarves fish for are vermin. carp and other scary ones are actual creatures, and your dwarves treat them the same way as any creature(they run from groundhogs too)

Oddly enough, foxes do not seem to trigger anything. I've had a fox run straight past my dwarves and they didn't even blink.

Deer, however...

I, too, used to scoff at carp, and the fact that my dwarves would run from them.

Then the dwarven caravan came 'round, and the guards killed some animals... including one warthog on the bank of the river. My dwarves tried to gather the corpse to take to the butcher.

Anyway, long story short: I lost three dwarves, and the river ran red with their blood before I turned off outside hauling so that the carp didn't kill everyone.

Carp are dangerous.

Very dangerous.

Dwarves _should_ fear fish - I know I do, now.

foxes have stopped all work in my forts on occasion, just by walking by

why don't you build a big pit below the lake, add some grates and drain it. that should drain all the fish into your trap, where they would slowly die as your cave dries up / drains out.

Odd, in the previous version dwarves got scared away from the food they were eating by foxes all the time. I guess it's the excavation competition...
