Eh, I do think that the fourth dimension sounds cool, and maybe creatures could switch between it and get psat walls and stuff if you dont have them in the fourth dimension. But I think that rewinding would be WAY cooler, I would love to be able to salvage a fort, or save a dwarf that went into a mood by rewinding until it's where he wasn't in a mood, I don't think he would get the mood again because I think it's random.
Losing is fun, but going back in time to try again until your get it right is more fun, to me at least.

so 4d DF is where you control a bunch of 3d dwarfs spanning from multiple 3d dimensions of the same thing? so won't that be having someone open (humor me) 3x3x3 versions of Dwarf fortress and all those versions are connected to the same embark site and the game has dwarfs in 3d, and you have to manage those 7 while seeing them in a "mirror up against mirror" view. well first thing is that we need a cursor that can move through 4th(mirror by mirror view) dimension, which means having the game program multiple versions of the same game... which also means Massive Multitasking, hardware and FUN given that if 1 fort ends in that dimension the person in 4d won't be able to go back to that one 3rd DIMENSION plane
which is fine but until you get 4d creatures that come in and wreck stuff in game... then that won't ever happen given Toadyone never got flying down pack in Df so toadyONE^3 would have a only a 3d fort builder... in other words it would look like a Mirror to mirror view Sims.

well the key here would be to make sure to make a macro that designate a wall to be build in all dimensions.. but then we won't worry about that due to DF creatures can only move through the 3d dimension by ladders and stair wells and can't jump. so this would mean buildings that take up 3d space and stairs and ladders that travel through 4d which is almost like building the same fort over but now the different 3d dwarfs can interact with each other.
