Yes I am mostly joking, They live mostly between 3000-4000 meters deep so the only way you'd see these guys is if diving, submarines, or a race that is able to live and work both under and above water..........

Wow. what an amazing creature the deepsea once again brings us.
Judging by it's well developed eyes (especially considering the depth it lives at), and the tentacles, it's definitly a member of the octopus family.
I suspect the trunklike appendage is actually part of it's (hard) shell.
The 'ears' are either fins, or more probably special sensory organs developed for 'seeing in the dark'

Edit: I was somewhat wrong. The ears are fins, used for swimming. The trunklike appendage is actually a funnel for jet propulsion. It has no hard shell, but rather is gelatinous.
