This is goblin land
« on: December 28, 2010, 01:42:11 pm »

So i was tasked to kill a hydra. Again. Since the last hydra died rather easily i went off with my 19 companions only to find out that its lair is apparently deep in goblin territory. I get ambushed every two map tiles by about 20 goblins. They are weak but still they bring down the number of my followers slowly but steadily. How hosed am I?

As the number of your companions decreases, so will the number of ambushers.

You can kill the hydra with just 1 or 2 friends. What I always do is try to get the first hit, and attack the lower body. Once the hydra starts vomitting and retching, wasting chances to rip your head off, you can start focusing on the heads or just make it bleed out like a pig. Only instead of a pig, it's a gargantuan seven-headed dragonlike reptile. Have fun.

Everything went smoothly. The constant stream of goblins made only the good companions survive. My party appears to be made of battle hardened warriors now.
I also encountered dwarfs from my last fortress.
Recruited a legendary miner who keeps severing arms and legs left and right with his copper pick  :D
Alas i couldn't recruit the elite marksdwarf  :-[

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Which makes them the perfect companions. When they run out of ammo, they can't steal kills anymore, but they'll still give you bogeyman protection. Perfect!

A farmer can protect you from bogeymen, or a axeman, or whatever. Take some Useful bodyguards :p

Dwarven Science: We do what we must, because, we're bored.

Every few miles, [the dwarves] stop the cart.  One of the dwarfs (sic) gets off, digs a hole down below the dirt layers, licks the bedrock, and then they know exactly where they are.  It's called GPS: Geological Piquancy Sampling.

We can't stop here; this is goblin country! [/obligatory]

Also, someone has to see if doing this continuously can have any impact on the population of a goblins civ.

I had one time like 20 companions, just to see how many i could get^^
After killing a damn spearman, which had not less then 20 companions himself, i had ONE companion left.

Then a got the quest to kill a minotaur... yep.
I found his labyrinth and walked in.

The minotaur grasped the leg of my companion, shaking him around and playing with him, while i attacked his body all the time.
After my compinion was shaked death he finished playing with my companion, he was to weak to hit me and constantly retched and vomited. Few more hits and he was death.

After that, i planned to finish a quest i got at start but was to lazy to finish it then.
I used the travel map, got ambushed by bogeymans... and eventually butchered by them, first they bite my legs, then my whole under and upper body, and then shred my throat and lung...

I killed a minotaur damn!

My adventurer met his end at the hand of fucking goblins. He had a couple of hydras, titans and dragons under his belt. He was a legendary Axedorf and training to become a legendary Hammerdorf. I got ambushed by goblins twice while sleeping. The second ambush had me surrounded by about 10 goblins and after taking out my axe it got stuck in the first goblin. There were like 3 or 4 goblins on that tile and i couldn't hit the right one to twist the axe out of it fast enough.
Is there any way to just twist the weapon out of an enemy you don't know which it is? Or find out which enemy your weapon is stuck in? Could i have alt-moved on a tile occupied by a goblin?

nteract with it to pull it out. Alternatively, move to a tile not adjacent to the goblin and you'll pull it out automatically.

And no, you can't alt-move into an enemy-occupied tile, I've tried. The only way possible to have yourself standing up while your opponent is prone on the same tile is for a charge to result in you getting stuck together and falling over followed by standing up before the other guy can.
