training weapons should have inverted effect for quality
« on: December 23, 2010, 08:34:06 am »

the better its constructed, the less harm it will do to a target if hit

atm if you have a legendary+5 carpenter he can churn out battle axes that are more then good to go hunting gobbos... that doesn't sound logical to me... unless i got the worng idea of what training weapons are supposed to be? (cheap material quick to make less then decent weapons for early game? if so why call them training weapons?) :/

the goal of training weapons imo is to make them like "real life" weapons (metal etc) but without the side effects of lobbing off arms or am i wrong? so yea

0 quality training weapon would be just as lethal then a 0 quality "crap material" weapon, a masterful training weapon should be just as "non-lethal" as normal weapons become more "lethal" proportional

in the end i hope this will still deliver some bruises and broken bones once in a while, but far more rare if you use proper training material

ofc this should NOT influence gaining skill in a bad way, "maybe" in a good way but that seems unrealistic as one does not learn quicker by using better tools

If anything the skill gain would be quicker as most of the quality would presumably come from making the training weapon more like the real thing, so the better the training weapon the easier time one would have trying real ones.

I would rather lobby for ability to craft items at no-quality levels at will. (with, say, speed bonus to make it generally usefull).

In the meantime: Simply enable labor on a dwarf with no skill and make them the only dwarf that can use the workshop.  Boom - instant crap weapon.

Yeah, I think it's a good idea for high quality training weapons to be *less* likely to injure sparring dwarves than no quality training weapons.  Making them more deadly isn't what I think of when I think of "high quality" training weapons.

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
