Since it is Christmas tomorrow (or today, depending on your position on the Earth) and I had too much time on my hands, I decided to see what you get the most of in the 12 Days of Christmas song. I assumed you get the presents more than once since you count back to one past the first day of Christmas, so here is what you get:

42 Geese alaying
42 Swans A Swimming

36 Drummers Drumming
30 Pipers Pipping
22 ladies Dancing
12 Lords a leaping

So your true love mostly gives you birds, and the two largest varieties of these birds are water fowl, hence the title.
