Crash when looking at Titan in a cage
« on: March 20, 2008, 08:39:00 pm »

(Version 38c)

I caught a titan in a cage.

I put him, in the titan cage, at the bottom of my moat shaft that I rigged sort of a waterfall to spill into when I pull the lever to my Floodgate of Drowning.

I sealed the titan cage in there and pulled the Floodgate of Drowning.

When the water in the moat of drowning got about 4 deep, I went to examine the titan from my nits menu.

The game crashed. It was sorry for the inconvenience.

Something really needs to be done about ice. At the moment it's like some kind of Pitch Black threat where everyone dies at sunset. Feel free to substitute that film reference with one without Vin Diesel.

Do you have a save from before the crash?  If so, does it reproduce?

Okay, yeah. I think I copied it right and have it saved from the right time.

What's the uh... protocol here? Do you want the zipped save in an e-mail?

(Also I think I found out you can't drown a creature in a cage. Or titans can hold their breath for weeks.)

I'll need the region folder in some kind of zip/rar/7z, and any new objects that were added to the raw folder.  If it's less than 20 megs, you can send it to toadyone@bay12games.com.  You can also try The Dwarf Fortress File Depot which has a special section for bugged saves.

Oh, right. That is what you tell people.

Anyway, it's on its way.

EDIT: It's up. I don't have anything modded or anything, just the game straight off of bay12games.

Okay, this has been fixed for next time.  Apparently it'll crash if you press v-i any time you don't have a unit in view.  edit:  I guess you have to force that by viewing the cage, since it'll always focus on a unit once found one (you can also get the crash by pressing v in an empty Z level and then pressing i).

Ya, cages work like putting the creature into suspended animation. They don't have to eat, drink, or breathe. The exception is children in a goblin babysnatcher's bag. The only way to kill a creature in a cage with a drowning chamber is to hook a lever up to the cage to release the creatures inside when the water is full.
