Why don't I get the items i Traded for?

After killing a outlaw that was pestering the town of Moistenedpasttime ( Not joking ) I travelled to a near-by town and traded the pike that i took from the outlaw and traded it for a leather water skin after accepting the trade with "t" I walked away and noticed the pike at the merchants feet, with no water skin in my inventory.

If I've done something wrong or something like that please tell me thanks.

You've actually got to go pick it up off the table it's sitting on in the shop.
