Music Sorter/Organizer
« on: January 22, 2011, 04:31:37 am »

So I've got a bunch of MP3 files and a smattering of FLAC files.

I'm looking for a program that can:

- Automatically rename the file to just the song name, and edit the file data to have the correct artist/album/etc.
- Create folders to store songs in.
- Enter multiple folders into to be sorted automatically.

Freeware is preferred, but if there's a really great alternative that's relatively cheap, I'm all for it.

iTunes? It's kind of slow if you aren't on a Mac, but it'll sort you're music in folders quite nicely, you just have to give it the artist/album name. It won't clean up file names automatically.

e, Apple doesn't support FLAC either.

Already got iTunes - it's not doing what I want it to.

I'm meticulous with my music library.  It's my core survival tool at work.  I have headphones in like 6 hours a day.

I use mp3tag for tagging all my music.  I do folders by hand.  I use winamp for rating my music and then use smart views to generate playlists by rating + artist/genre/whatever

It only takes me a few minutes to assimilate an album into my library (not including rating it)

Mp3tag is what I use to rename music files and edit tags.  It doesn't let you organize the files but having the proper tags and filenames helps.

I read a maximum PC article that had a program that edits tags and sorts music into appropriate folders according to how you tell it.  I think it was called something monkey.  Give me some time to find it and I'll post a link.

Media Monkey? I didn't know it would auto-sort, but it has my favorite autotag feature.

You don't use freedom Penguin. First you demand it, then you have it.
No using. That's not what freedom is for.

The program is called Media Monkey.  The free version should have all that you need.  This is the Maximum PC article I was talking about.
