Adventure mode is still like an alpha within an alpha, Toady'll no doubt introduce a way to bury companions at some point.

haul the body to a place that remembers content (a lair).
Then if possible, build a fortress around the lair. Devote the fortress to building a tomb for your friend.
Abandon the fort leaving as little trace (other than the tomb) of your dwarves as possible.
don't, item's scatter when a fort is over lapping a lair it kinda cancels out the item holding.
They do. But the "item holding" will work enough for it to be near where you left it (esp. if you left it in a bag full of heavy rocks :D )
And after you abandon the fort, the body should be in a coffin. A constructed coffin. So it should be ok. As for anything else you want to leave in the tomb, I have two words: Lead Bins. The bit about abandoning the fort leaving little-to-no trace was specifically to avoid the mass of random detritus. For extra fun, the last dwarf standing could breach the HFS, making the Tomb Of The Fallen Warrior an extra-special place to visit.

Can you put items in constructed chests, bags, or cabinets as an adventurer? Because you might be able to store items in his tomb that way.

Oddly enough, i'm fairly sure you used to be able to. In .40d. (memories of a tomb built under the ocean... bad plan) But you can't now.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.

Am I really the only jerk who sees dead companions as piles of free armor?

Considering the substandard armor most mooks companions have? yes.

normally i'm that way but there was a particular peasant who valiantly fought off 4 bandits while I took out the leader and he took all the damage over and over again.  He ended up survivng the battle, but died sometime later from blood lost, the poor bastard was a hero and didn't deserve to be left for the wolves.

Escort his body to the underworld yourself.  Pick it up and navigate the cavern layers until you find lava and then drop him in.  Alternatively, you could find an old fort with the HFS open and put him literally in hell yourself.

Today we slew a feathered, flying, nematode in his forest temple to further the glory of our home nation. The fight lasted hours, for it wouldn`t die, even though we hacked off both his wings and bruised everything that could be bruised. My four companions died.

After the fight i carried their broken bodies to some trees, gathered the parts of the beast and the best pieces of weapons and armor together and added them to the pile. Then i set the pile on fire and watched for a few hours.

Classic.

I have my companion's foot in my backpack.  Sure, i had it before he died too, but now that he IS dead it makes a nice memorial.

I wish the game kept detailed information of all the companions I've had because I've probably gone through a hundred or so. But, there's no way in the world I would bury each one. Not one single companion has survived with me more than a week and so I've never really been attached to any of them.
