PC overheating question.
« on: December 21, 2010, 07:38:20 am »

Should I be worried if my pc's idle temperature is around 45 degrees celsius going up to 60 something when playing graphics-intense games?
If yes, how can I cool it better? I clean it regularly using compressed air, so it can't be dust.

When you say your pc's idle temp....what do you mean?

The motherboard temp?

The CPU temp?

The GPU temp?

The Memory temp?

My CPU and Mobo temps currently are: 66 c, and 42 c. According to my Intel Desktop utilities, I'm almost 40 degrees celisus away from "Yellow" on my CPU temperature. Even farther for my mobo.

If your GPU is that high, it's still pretty much fine.

Er, sounds like you have an onboard graphics card. Unless you're getting weird performance problems, hangs, graphical corruption, any of that stuff, I think you're fine.

If you still want better cooling, check your fans and make sure they're running at decent speeds. (You can d/l all sort of diagnostics tools if your mobo didn't come with one.) Get more fans, play with the side of your case off (not recommended), sit your PC next to an open window so its drawing cold winter air in....if you're cleaning regularly then you've probably just got a case that's not getting super awesome airflow.

Just as I thought. I guess I must have failed when I was hooking the graphics card up.

Seems like I'll just buy lots and lots of fans  :D.
