Hi ppl , i'm new here at the forums but i've played older versions of DF some time ago , the last one i've played was 40d and df2010 was just released and it was bugged as hell.

I want to play DF again but i need to know :

40d or 2010?

Well, everyone has their own preference...

I've not played 40d, but I have played the original 2010, and I can assure you that 2010 has come a long way since then.

I'd suggest making three fortresses. One in 0.32.18, one in 0.32.16 and on in the last release of 40d. Which ever one you find to have the least bugs, or the most comfortable bugs, should be the one you play.

I'd go 2010. The one major issue that people seem to have with it is the very complex military system. Also, farming is a little harder (you need mud)—for that, I just burrow down to the caves and wall off a little area.

But yeah, the military is the hard part, IMO. If you don't mind messing around a bit figuring out the military system, you should be fine in 2010.

I've been playing since before the .40abcd and at this point I think we're past the highs we got to with .40d. Some of the utilities and whatnot are only just catching up, but the game itself is far better (IMHO) than in 40d. The caverns, man. New players don't realize how amazing they are, though I mourn the loss of the bottomless pits, the magma sea is pretty dang awesome. Word of advice - the "go inside" command has been replaced with burrows. This question gets asked by almost every player switching to 2010. Me included. Burrows are better, once you get used to them.

As for 0.31.18 vs 0.31.16 - ghosts are too awesome to miss.

EDIT: oops. 0.31.xx not 0.32.xx
