1:Take your miners.
2:Tell to dig out a room, aprox. the size of the dungeon room.
3:When they're halfway done, remove the rest of the dig designations.

Dunno if this was already known, so yeah.

I dunno, this should look pretty stupid in the end (diagonal gaps, digging restart preferences, etc...)
Just designate only your small cavern, it's worth the extra effort.

I use the mouse and draw a few irregular shaped blobs near each other. Filling them in isn't tedious if they're small and you should be able to get the bunch of narrow tunnels crap by just randomly drawing some lines between two of them.
