Can't set exotic animals as pets?

The dungeon master hasn't arrived yet, but i bought some tame exotic abimals from elves. Now they won't appear on animal list so I can't mark'em available for adoption. Is that how it's supposed to be? Also they are (tame) but not stray.

Probably the same bug as when the animals are dropped by a caravan. Try building the cages and releasing them with a lever in a few months when the caravan is long gone. If it fails, collapse a ceiling on them.

I've learned to get around the caged bug you should make a chain and assign them to it. Then, deconstruct the chain, and they are free to do as you wish.
