How to make Dark Subterranean tile?

In some of my games after i moisture my ponds i fill them with floors and the mud tiles beneath them would get Dark Subterranean, but sometimes they will remain Light Above Ground so I can't use'em for underground farming. So how exactly do I make a tile Subterranean?

Make sure it is never exposed to the light, ever. If a tile has ever been exposed to the light, it will be light forever.
