Downward passage?
« on: December 04, 2010, 07:25:29 pm »

I had just started a new fort, made a few stockpiles, bedrooms, etc etc when I decided to dig down to the caverns to start. I hit a cavern, and then got a message "You have discovered a downward passage". I searched the wiki, and it said it was found a in caves, and had no other information on it. My site is a mountain biome, where caves are found. Did I just find an underground cave or what?

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

A downward passage connects a cavern layer to the next lower one. It is useful only in adventure mode, when you can't dig down.

Ahh okay. The wiki didn't say that in an obvious place. (In my previous fort I ahad found a deep pit and was scared it was related to megabeasts or dragons or the sort, before finding out it just lead to another cavern)

So you just jump down it? That seems counter-intuitive.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

It's a series of ramps, not a straight fall.
