Abandonded Towns.
« on: November 28, 2010, 09:14:50 am »

I was heading for a quest to kill a bandit that was on the other side of they bay. Ok I thought, and went. However, there were no town on the way to the other side of the bay, and it was quite late by the time I got to the other side. However, after I got to the other side, I found the SINGLE MOST CONVENIENT HAMLET EVER. It was smack-dap in the middle of no where, no roads or anything connecting it to the rest of the Human civ. I went to it, opened the first door and... no one was there. I tried the next house, and then the next, no-one was there! I take a nap in one of the houses to see if anyone would "call out" to me but no one did. It was like the hamlet wasn't there.

Any explanations?

Were the doors made of "unknown material", by any chance?

I'll have to check later. I'm currently training throwing and swimming.

Edit: Yes, yes it was. What does it mean?

I've seen a fair number of abandoned hamlets.  Very, very rarely, you can actually find one or two living people there.  I've found a total of two peasants in an abandoned hamlet before, they lived in the same building.  I've also found a surviving bandit (From just having raided her camp) living in a building in a hamlet.  I also notice that these abandoned hamlets tend to be near the glitch-fortresses that have the nude, crazed wrestlers.

It's possible that the abandoned town thing is related to the wrestler forts, although it might also be some kinda feature, judging by the bandit living there.  It's difficult to say.  The unknown material stuff could mean it's a glitch, or it could mean that the material isn't recorded after the people disappear.  It's certainly interesting, though.

Went to to kill the sand raider bandit (I was using the civ forge mod.). I threw my dagger... and he promptly exploded into flames. Then he BEAT ME TO DEATH.

Was he named Sankis, by chance?

Killed him and left so I can't check, but I was killed by bogy-men and I has a past save so i'll just force quit and countiue from my past save.

(I had 3 adventurers sent to kill him, all died horriblely at either the bandits or the bogey-men.)

I've had the same unknown-material doors + empty hamlets glitch.  I suppose its possible that ruins aren't properly implemented any longer.

I've modded other civs to use the same human-type hamlet/town/city template for their living quarters. I come across these abandoned hamlets very frequently.

There was an abandoned goblin village in my world... I looked at legends mode and all of the villages had been pillaged at least once by the nearby human kingdom, so no freakin' wonder!
