there was once a kobold raid in my 40d fort that caused a flame demon to light the ground on fire and then promptly die in it.

I have yet to have a kobold ambush/siege.

This fortress is next to a kobold civilization. Hopefully, some kobolds will come.

Kobolds recently savd my fort by sending theives.
These theives died.
There stuff was traded for much need supplies.
Almost no-one died. Except for the guy who died of thirst, in a fortress made of Ice.

Just had a goblin siege. Entire squad of goblin bow-goblins emptied their quivers on two kobold thieves.

I've had horrible trouble with kobolds on my latest fort. When I say trouble, I mean hardly any. Theye get spotted ASAP and any goblin baby snatchers are killed straight away with traps. I sent my archers after one but they had run out of bolts training. They smashed his head in with their bows and left him on the side of a mountain, brutal.

Anyway, one managed to steal 25 silver bolts [Left by a migrant with low hunting that dropped it straight away at the edge of the map] and then next thing I know I get a siege. Composed entirely of lashers except one elk bird and one maceman. My archers [This time loaded] picked a few off from the walls and they ran away.

i tend to think of Kobold in two ways: 1. as skulking filth trying to steal things (a la tax collector) 2. cute small goblins with yellow eyes and orange skin.

Set up a sealable outer wall that none of your dwarves go outside of (containing a big outdoor area for outdoor activities between itself and your underground entrance). When a thief gets spotted (inside the wall as no dwarves go outside it), seal the wall, blocking the thief's escape, making them militia fodder.

If you want kobold ambushes, just let them steal your stuff... after they steal so much they will see you as weak and attack.
