Need some help tidying up
« on: August 14, 2014, 05:37:11 pm »

I have finally gotten my fortress to a manageable point, in that I have defenses, plenty of resources, etc.
What I have way too much of is refuse and corpses.  I have no need for hundreds of shells, etc.

I read the wiki and made a quantum stockpile by testing it on my stonework floor.  Sure enough, it condensed my stockpile to one tile, where I could easily reclaim it all.
I made a dwarven atom smasher, at least my first attempt at one.
Created a drawbridge, raised it, and placed a garbage tile on one of the spaces under it.
I designated the refuse from some close stockpiles to be dumped.  No effect.
Same for corpses.

I still have a dog corpse from day 1 in my courtyard(black mambas?.... really?).  Can't get rid of it.
Tried creating a corpse stockpile, no good.
I did find out that selecting items from a goblin's corpse and unforbidding them causes the dwarves to loot their corpses. As far as I can tell, the corpses themselves are not forbidden.  Setting them to be dumped or not seems to make no difference.

Any help is appreciated.

If any garbage (refuse) is outside, you need to set orders for your dwarfs to gather it, or they ignore it.  By default, they only gather refuse from inside, where it would cause miasma.

R for refuse is what you need to toggle.

Just replying to say that this worked.  Thank you very much.
Running the atom smasher is almost a full time job.

I drafted a bunch of fisherdwarves to slow the influx of mussels.

If you are feeling crafty and like flirting with danger you can always set your atom smasher up on a pressure plate along an automatic minecart return. A low friction dumping track stop works well here. :))
