Issue with digging upwards?
« on: October 29, 2007, 08:20:00 pm »

After I place an upwards ramp and change the view to the new level, if I select any of the now exposed rock for mining it just gets completely ignored. I don't get the same problem if I go down, however... which seems a little strange. Anyone else getting anything like this, or are you all too busy digging right down? lol

you have to channel out the square above it, after building the ramp to get the ramp to work

Just a guess (still at work), but ramps might need a different tile designated--up+forward or something?

But as a workaround, well, the movies seemed to work fine with stairs, so maybe you just need stairs first to build the upper level in the first place.

So (fourth triad) you're saying you have to dig out the floor before you can dig out the rest? Thing is, I can see the ramp from that floor, they just ignore the walls around it. I'll give it a go though (tomorrow)

I also tried upwards stairs, but I can't even see that from the floor above and any digs around it are also ignored.

it only works with ramps and only after you build ramp can the dwarves reach the ceiling, with stairs you have to have matching sets of up and down stairs for them to work, but yeah ramps are very unintuitive to use

To build up you need to place the ramp and have a spot for your miners to go when digging. If beside a cliff try rewalling, in the mountain, no clue.

I built stairs going up by building the up-stairs on the ground floor, holding something against the screen to mark which tile it was, and then going up a level and designating the tile above the up-stairs to have a down-stairs built.

it is quite annoying and would be much better if it worked like the down-stairs where it shows a wall at the end of the stairs.
