The little tech questions thread
« on: November 25, 2010, 03:46:08 pm »

The place you ask questions about computers and stuff not important enough to warrant it's own thread.
Now, How do I make custom icons for stuff and assign them?

If it's a shortcut, you should be able to just change the icon under properties.
System icons, like recycle bin and my computer can be changed under Control Panel.
If I remember correctly, system items only support .ico, but shortcuts can do .png and .bmp, but I'm not sure.
Just look around for a program that can save as .ico.
I know GIMP 2.6 can.
Not sure about Photoshop, but there are specialized programs for that kinda stuff.

I've got a custom icon sitting on my desktop from a .bmp file, so it definitely works under windows XP, at least. Like ein said, there's a button in the properties window for shortcuts labeled 'Change Icon' which just goes to a simple file browser.
