Captains

Flugging assholes!

I took down about 20 goblins in a row, the captain is in the back. Everyone is dead but him, I attack him, using aimed swings against his hands/arms, but he manages to stab me two times and I'm down. I didn't manage to block anything, no dodging, nothing. Twenty goblins, I sliced them all in half.

The captain I couldn't even bruise.

ARGH! I feel like throwing a tantrum.

Captains/Ringleaders/Chieftans/esses/Warlords etc... = Masters of The +Cheap Shot+
I suddenly feel like i'm dying constantly now. I've died 4 times in the past hour, where I could usually stay alive for an hour or two.

Ridiculous

I had the same problem with a bandit camp leader dodging, blocking, parrying and so on all of my attacks that I was trying to disarm him with. So I put my axe in my bag (this doesn't seem to take a 'turn' of combat) and grabbed his spear with my hand, then wrestled it off him. When you have someone else's object in your hand, you can attempt to claim it by going to your nventory and selecting it. You'll then get the option to attempt to take it.

They seem to have a pretty bad grip on their weapons, as I then tried this straight away on the next couple of enemies and succeeded each time. You can also do the same to their armour so your hits will never be deflected, but they are pretty harmless without a weapon so it is usually unecessary.

Tip, use a mix of Ambush and throwing. Just like Sam Fisher.

For those who do not understand, you can KO an enemy with thrown rocks in either game.

I just sneak up and strangle them. It's more fun to silently assassinate everyone in the whole camp, then go after him all alone. Safer that way too, since he seems to have a better chance of detecting me, but by then he's already got a throatlock on him, and no one is around to save him.

Really? Sneaking?

I guess I can't blame sneaking, since I usually stay out during the day and not the night.

On another note, I've been picking up a near unlimited amount of stones and tried throwing, all though nothing seems to happen.
g > random stone > t > random stone > aim at enemy > enter, correct? I'm not getting a notification with that, though. I get no notification like "you throw your random stone, but you miss". Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying, but if you miss you don't get a notification, the stone just disappears back into the biome somewhere in the distance. :P You only get a notification if whatever you throw hits. :)

This is why I prefer to wrestle their possessions of them and throw it back at them - they haven't gotten it in their heads to pick up what I threw back at them, even if it ends up jammed in their wounds.

I usually slash at their weapon hand, if I force them to drop their weapon I pick it up and play with them for a while.

I usually knock them over with a charge. It's much more likely to work than it sounds, but also doesn't accomplish any but to let them attack less often; it doesn't diminish their ability to dodge, block, or parry one bit.

Throw stuff, it works so well it feels like cheating.

Ambushing, throwing and weapon stripping. I try to weapon strip leaders ASAP.

Still, some bad guy leaders are just insanely good and sometimes you get one early on when your skills haven't developed. One time my first quest was a goblin bandit leader with 6 guys. Even with just two companions, we wiped out her whole gang....then she rolls on the scene, immediately kills one of my companions with her WHIP, dodges 5 attacks of mine, kills my other companion, then drops me with two strikes and coup de graces me.

Really, there should be some kind of indicator in these quests what the relative power level of the leaders are. If they say they killed 26 people, I assume they're old as hell or they're extremely good. But these initial quests where they don't give you any other information on that figure? They should indicate in some way, that they're bad ass mofos.

I noticed that they are a bit tougher (mostly because most bandits die within one or two turns) but I've not had much trouble with being hurt by 'em.

I am rolling out with 1900+ speed though  ::)

I once found an entire friendly camp, my companions were fighting, but I was able to talk to all goblins, they were all friendly. lol.

But yeah, I found some badass leaders, one even killed an ultimate char(legendary at all skills you can choose at start, all attributes superior).
