Every artifact created done by military

How is this possible? I thought they weren't supposed to do anything but train when I have them active. I've had five artifacts created in such a way, and nearly all of them reference each other's creator's items. Not complaining or anything, it's just strange.

I think Toady once said that there's a script that picks out a random dwarf from the list of dorfs that haven't made an artifact, and that that one will then go and make something snazzy. Only millitary being selected may be some kind of bug, though.

I'm noticing some issues with my marksdwarfs anyway, so that may be the problem. I have a special archery room for them, set to train at 5 minimum, and they refuse to train.
