How I Shot Thread?
« on: November 17, 2010, 02:59:52 pm »

So, i'm trying to make a custom reaction to turn hair into low-quality but tough thread to make a heavier version of rope reed cloth that's slightly better defense, but I... am... LOST.
I tried just making the custom reaction and that doesn't even work.

Can someone help?  If I can at LEAST get hair to thread, i'd be satisfied.  Less useless junk.

Then I just need to devise a use for cartilidge and nervous tissue..

There's a few other mods i'd like, too.  Like adding Kangaroos and some new overworld plants with syndromes when eaten, if possible.

I think it'd help to post what you have currently.

Sorry, I already deleted it as it caused the game to crash in fortress mode.  =(

Let me try again and post.

[THREAD_PLANT]
[SILK]
and
[ITEMS_SOFT]
are tags in material_template_default. You could try adding them to [MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:HAIR_TEMPLATE] or similar. Not sure how or where these work with the engine, though I'm pretty sure [ITEMS_SOFT] is an indicator that materials using that template are usable in clothing.

So here's what I have.  The reaction doesn't show up anywhere, so I can't weave the hair.

In tissue_template:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In reaction_other:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I also added it to the entities.

hmm...  I acutally had this working, and you seem to have it right except for one thing...
The Loom is not a building that accepts custom reactions.  Existing structures that will work are the Smelter, Kiln, Tanner, and Kitchen.  (it worked in the tanner for me.)  Try changing to one of those, or creating a custom workshop and you should be selling Llama hair knitted caps to the elves in no time.

I'm pretty sure you will have to weave it again if you output strands. Call it untangle hair.
Or not. Just a suggestion

You seem to have put the MATERIAL_REACTION_PRODUCT, SILK, and ITEM_SOFT tokens in the tissue template instead of the material template.  Try putting it in the correct file and see if that helps.  (Also, change the workshop.)

Also, you don't need to specify material reaction products if the reagent and product have the same material.  Your product line can just be [PRODUCT:100:1:THREAD:NONE:GET_MATERIAL_FROM_REAGENT:A:NONE][PRODUCT_DIMENSION:15000].

Speaking of which, don't forget to add a product dimension to the product or you'll find yourself producing very, very small pieces of thread.

Once you've verified that it works 100%, please post the recipe.
