Humans have no mayors.
« on: June 14, 2008, 09:11:00 am »

I've just been going through the new RAW files, and discovered that humans lack the [MAYOR] tag.
Not sure if this is intended, since the dwarves appear to have kept theirs.

IIRC Toady removed mayors from humans because it was a dwarven thing and it didn't make sense that the mayors were hanging around in the mead halls.

But I wonder where are we going to get quests now, because the most common source for them was the mead hall's mayor. There could be a bartender or someone else, who knows everything that is going on and thus can give quests.

Finding Kings/Queens or other civ leaders for quests is just irritating because they are so hard to come by.

Toady uploaded the raws from the next version in the dev log some days ago.

So this problem will come up when the new version hits.

They were the main source of fun in adventure mode.
It was really easy to find one and they ususally pointed locations of interesting caves and monsters...

I hope they'll have a replacement, or an adventure mode quest side will be sad.

I'm guessing that every town will have to have SOME form of government representative. Perhaps the merchant nobility?

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Towns now have military leaders. I spoke to Toady about this in IRC

Once you join a religion, you should get quests from the high priest to kill enemies of the God, like other high priests worshiping Gods with opposing spheres, megabeast powers, demons, and the like.  Once ruins are back, Life-based Gods would probably want those cleared out too.

Just an aside:

I thought the title said manors.
